During a 3 week artist residency in the Island of Shodoshima (Japan), I had the opportunity to meet different women and see with my very own eyes how tradition, culture and futurism find their place in japanese culture. Women in the island live quietly and calm far away from the extremely busy cities of Kobe and Osaka; here they find their own rythm and are capable to be closer to their traditions. The population of the island is mainly old; youngsters left to study or find a job in the cities nearby. People who decide to stay know their roots well and are proud to maintain ancient techniques of fishering, soya sauce making, cooking...
